HEALTH PROFESSIONS PATHWAY
Year 2: Human Anatomy & Physiology
Students enrolled in Human Anatomy & Physiology have taken 1 year of STEM Fundamentals.

Course Description:
A study of the organization of cells into tissues, organs, and organ systems, with in-depth study of body systems. This course will prepare students for higher level Health Professions Pathway electives and A.P. classes.
Within this course, students will
-
explore the relationship between the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems .
-
Design and develop working anatomical models
-
Culminating task: collaborative scientific research presentation

Year 3: Microbiology/Human Diseases
Students enrolled in Microbiology/Human Diseases have taken 1 year of Human Anatomy & Physiology, Research course or Applied Science course.

Course Description:
This course introduces students to concepts in microbiology and human disease.
Within this course, students will explore
-
microbial diagnosis (the basis, sensitivity, and limitations of clinical diagnostic tests)
-
etiology (infectious agents responsible, differential diagnoses – infectious or not).
-
epidemiology (transmission, susceptibility, patterns).
-
pathogenesis (how the organisms cause disease).
-
symptoms (symptoms that help in diagnosis, how these symptoms relate to disease).
-
prevention (vaccines, hand washing, etc.).
-
treatment (drug or other treatment options).

Year 4: Advanced Placement (AP) Science Course
+ Hospital Internship (screening process required)
4th year Health Professions Pathway students choose from a wide selection of Advanced Placement courses
-
AP Environmental Science
-
AP Physics C: Mechanics
-
AP Chemistry (recommended in conjunction with Hospital Internship)
