FAQ

If my child is interested in the medical field what pathways should he/she take?

Your child must take 1 year of STEM Fundamentals before he/she decides a specific pathway. The options that mostly relate to the medical field are: Applied Sciences, Health Professions, or Research.

Applied Sciences Pathway focuses on lab inquiry with fundamental science principles that will be revisited in college.

Health Professions Pathway exposes students to the medical field through the following courses: Microbiology/Human Diseases and Anatomy & Physiology.

Research Pathway prepares students in producing high-level research papers from the studies they conducted. They will be competing in various science competitions in-house and outside of school. Outside competitions include the annual New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF) and the York College Science Fair. These experiences will give students a competitive edge when applying to colleges.

How are all these STEM courses counted?

Your child needs to take elective courses to graduate. As a result, the STEM FUNDAMENTALS course will fulfill your child's elective requirement during his/her 1st year. All pathways have courses that fulfill the student's elective requirements.
